China Glaze Midtown Magic

Today I tried out the second polish that I purchased from China Glaze's recent Metro collection: Midtown Magic. I had no desire for this one until I saw it in person, and I knew it was coming home with me. I love polishes like this one: deep browny-plum with greeny-gold (and tiny flecks of red) shimmer. The formula on this one was also excellent. Two coats for perfect coverage. Very vampy and nice for fall, and I bet it would look really nice on shorter nails. The one caveat was that the wear on this one was not great (lots of tipwear very quickly), but it's super pretty.

So, I seem to have a penchant for these types of colors, so I dug the two most similar (in my mind) out of my stash, these being OPI DS Mystery and OPI Tease-y Does It (one of my favorite polishes).

So in this crappy comparison here, we have (from left to right) DS Mystery, Midtown Magic, and Tease-y Does It. Obviously, Tease-y Does It is not a dupe, it's much more plummy, and the shimmer is redder. They are closer in life than they appear in this shot though. As for DS Mystery, it's much closer to Midtown Magic, except (and this is not visible in any picture I could take) the base is *much* cooler and bluer (you can sorta see it in the fleck I got on my finger, whoops!), and the shimmer pieces are larger and lacks the red shimmer apparent in Midtown Magic. The closest of the three are DS Mystery and Midtown Magic, but they're not dupes. But if you have one, you may not really need the other (DS Mystery has better wear on me).

What are your picks from China Glaze Metro collection? Did I miss any good ones?

OPI DS Glamour

The only OPI DS (Designer Series) polish I owned before this one arrived in the mail today was Ruby. Which I bought off 8ty8beauty.com because I thought it would be a deep red holo. It's not, but it is a light red holo, very pretty, but I've never felt compelled to buy another DS polish. Not sure why, but I guess I got my holo fix with China Glaze's Kaleidoscopes and OMGs, so I wasn't much interested in buying OPI's version because... well, honestly? They cost more. Because they're holo. Which is pretty stupid, if you ask me. At any rate, I did want Glamour but it's an older DS and long sold out on most etailer websites that I visit. Glamour is the first polish I've ever bought off eBay. I hate eBay. They owe me money, and they're bastards. But they do make polish dreams come true, occasionally.

This polish reminds me of pen ink for some reason. Like when a pen explodes, only... holographic. It's the comparison that keeps running through my head. This holo is super holo. I've only seen it in crappy indoor nighttime light and it's intense. It might blind me tomorrow in the sunlight. Cobalt blue holo, 2 coats, perfect application... OPI is good for me, like I've said.

Pics, which aren't half bad:

Less holo here, but just wait.... wait for it....

Bam!

YEAH. This is gonna go into a little hidey hole with my original My Private Jet so they can keep each other company. I'd keep this on longer but I'm trying to do my nails every day up until I leave so I don't get too behind while in Canada for 10 days... so I'd like to be 10 posts ahead. Will this happen? I'm not sure it's humanly possible. But I'm gonna try.

Thanks for looking!
